The report highlights Bekaert's commitment to sustainability through its global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy focused on four pillars: workplace, marketplace, environment and society. Bekaert received a C-level certification from Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) for its 2011 CSR report and also achieved ISO 14001 certification for 93% of its plants, with the remaining 5 expected to be certified by 2012. In 2011, Bekaert implemented the Safety Tree model in all of its plants and launched the ‘New Environmental Technologies’ project to boost environmental performance. Furthermore, Bekaert’s Regional Headquarters Asia in Shanghai received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Golden Certification Award for its sustainable design and environmental friendliness.
